The latest global shipbuilding industry monthly report released(1)

Newly signed singles decreased by 46.86% from the previous month


According to Clarkson's latest statistics (as of May 14, 2021), 119 new orders were signed globally in April 2021, totaling 3,504,962 CGT. Compared with the 181 new global orders in March 2021, totaling 6,595,176 CGT, the number has decreased by 62 month-on-month, and the revised gross tonnage has decreased by 46.86%. Compared with the 104 new orders signed globally in April 2020, totaling 16,57209 CGT, the number has increased by 15 ships year-on-year, and the revised gross tonnage has increased by 111.50% year-on-year.


From the perspective of ship types, there are 24 bulk carriers with a total of 1989,490 dwt; 8 oil tankers with a total of 1600,500 dwt; 41 container ships with a total of 300,800 TEU; 5 chemical tankers with a total of 172,000 dwt; 27 liquefied gas carriers Ships with a total of 2201,000 cubic meters; 6 other ship types with a total of 127730CGT; 8 offshore vessels with a total of 129670CGT.


In terms of order types, the bulk carriers have newly signed 2 Capesize bulk carriers, 17 Kamsar bulk carriers, 3 Handysize bulk carriers and 2 Handysize bulk carriers; Newly signed oil tankers 3 VLCCs, 3 Suez tankers and 2 Aframax tankers; new container ships signed 13 ultra-Panamax container ships, 16 Panamax container ships, 4 sub-Panamax container ships and 8 handy-type containers ferry.


According to the ordering shipyard countries, in April, the global new ship orders were 119 ships, totaling 3504962CGT, of which Chinese shipyards received 70 ships, totaling 2009080CGT; Japanese shipyards received 2 ships, totaling 62208CGT; South Korean shipyards received 35 ships, totaling 1280602CGT . The revised gross tonnage accounts for 57.32%, 1.77% and 36.54% of global new ship orders respectively.

From January to April 2021, the number of new ship orders for 527 ships with a total of 44,065,271 dwt, compared with 448 new orders signed in the same period in 2020, with a total of 18,555,052 dwt, has increased by 17.63% and 137.47% year-on-year.


From the perspective of ship types, there are 71 bulk carriers with a total of 5,779,992 dwt; 59 oil tankers with a total of 10,421,867 dwt; 36 chemical tankers with a total of 1,133,390 dwt; 214 container ships with a total of 2,176,616 TEU; 67 liquefied gas carriers Ships, totaling 5003715 cubic meters; 28 offshore ships, totaling 422,346CGT; 52 other ship types, totaling 828,401CGT.


From the perspective of shipyard countries, Chinese shipyards have signed new orders for 279 ships, totaling 7749424CGT; Japanese shipyards have signed new orders for 35 ships, totaling 1034738CGT; South Korean shipyards have signed new orders for 171 ships, totaling 6,892,639CGT; revised gross tonnage accounts for global new ship orders.
