With the advantage of cooperation with Mitsui E&S Shipbuilding, Yangzi Mitsui Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group, has successfully received orders for four 66,000 dwt bulk carriers.

Ltd. and Meghna Group, one of the largest groups in Bangladesh, recently successfully signed a contract for the construction of four 66,000-ton bulk carriers through a video link in a cloud contract. The vessels will be built at Yangzi Mitsui Shipbuilding based on the design of Mitsui E&S Shipbuilding in Japan and are scheduled to be completed and delivered in the second half of 2022 to the first half of 2023.

The vessel is a wide shallow draft 66,000 dwt (Type 66) bulk carrier of Mitsui E&S Shipbuilding's eco-friendly and low fuel consumption vessel "neo series". Mitsui E&S Shipbuilding has a track record of delivering more than 20 vessels. The vessel is 199.99m in length, 192.90m in length between the two columns, 36.00m in beam, 18.45m in depth, 11.20m in design draft and 12.92m in structural draft, and is classed by Japan Classification Society (JCS) under Bangladesh flag.

This is the first time for Yangzi Mitsui Shipbuilding to build a bulk carrier designed by Mitsui E&S Shipbuilding. Clarkson's data shows that the ships built by Yangzi Mitsui Shipbuilding are mainly 82,000 dwt Kamsarmax type bulk carriers, all of which are designed by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group's subsidiary, Babersys Marine Technology (Shanghai) Co. Besides, there is only one 31,800 dwt bulk carrier of Deltamarin design in the handheld order.

It is worth mentioning that on December 28 last year, Mitsui E&S Shipbuilding signed a drawing supply agreement with Yangzi Mitsui Shipbuilding for the first time to provide Yangzi Mitsui Shipbuilding with drawings of 66,000 dwt (Type 66) bulk carriers designed by Mitsui E&S Shipbuilding, and will receive license fees when Yangzi Mitsui Shipbuilding builds the relevant vessels.

According to the agreement, Mitsui E&S Shipbuilding will receive a license fee for each bulk carrier of this type built by Yangzi Mitsui Shipbuilding. The "neo66BC" was the first vessel type under the drawing supply agreement because, as Yankee Mitsui Shipbuilding's sales activities progressed, it attracted newbuilding inquiries from Asian shipowners who owned and evaluated Mitsui E&S Shipbuilding's Type 66 bulk carriers. Sources said at the time that Yankee Mitsui Shipbuilding was expected to receive orders for several vessels of the same type in the near future.

In addition to the "neo66BC", Mitsui E&S Shipbuilding's "neo series" bulk carrier designs include the Type 56 "neo56BC", the Type 60 "neo60BC", the Type 87 "neo87BC" and the Type 182 "neo182BC". "neo60BC", "neo87BC" and "neo182BC". Mitsui E&S Shipbuilding intends to expand the scope of the drawing supply agreement in accordance with the progress of Yankee Mitsui Shipbuilding's sales activities.

It is understood that Yangzi Mitsui Shipbuilding is a joint venture between Mitsui E&S Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Mitsui E&S Holdings, Mitsui & Co. and Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group, and will officially open for production in October 2019. Previously, Mitsui E&S Shipbuilding had made it clear that Yangzi Mitsui Shipbuilding would begin taking orders for a wide range of bulk carrier types designed by Mitsui E&S Shipbuilding. In addition to bulk carriers, Yangzi Mitsui Shipbuilding also plans to build MR-type product tankers, small and medium-sized LNG carriers and other energy carriers in the future.
