In April this year, Chinese shipping companies again won more than half of the world's orders for new ships, surpassing South Korea in the number of orders received.
Clarkson's latest data showed global orders for new ships totaled 1.14 million CGT in April, up from 890,000 CGT in March and the second consecutive month of month-on-month growth.
Among them, Chinese shipping companies received a total of 38 orders of 730,000 CGT, accounting for about 64% of the global market share, ranking first in the world.South Korean shipping companies received a total of eight orders of 230,000 CGT, accounting for about 20% of the global market share, ranking second.Russian shipping companies ranked third with a total order volume of 7 vessels of 65,000 CGT, accounting for about 5.7% of the market share.Japan ranked fourth, with the order quantity of two 55,000 CGT.
So far this year, Chinese shipping companies have become the dominant force in the new shipbuilding market.In the first four months of this year, Chinese shipping companies received 61 per cent of global orders for new ships, compared with 17 per cent for south Korean carriers.
According to clarkson, the number of orders received by Chinese shipping companies in the first quarter of this year was 1.51 million CGT, accounting for 64.8% of the global market share, ranking first.The number of orders received by the second ranked south Korean shipping company was 360,000 CGT, accounting for 15.4% of the market share.Japan ranked third, with order volume of 180,000 CGT, accounting for 7.7%.
In terms of handheld orders, by the end of April this year, the number of handheld orders of Chinese shipping companies reached 26.3 million CGT, ranking first in the world, which was lower than the 26.5 million CGT at the end of march.South Korean shipping companies ranked second with 20.77 million CGT orders.Japan was the third, with a total of 10.48 million CGT in hand orders.
