China's new ship orders have increased significantly in the beginning of the year!

According to the latest data released by Clarksons on February 8, in January this year, the global order volume for new ships was 3.07 million revised gross tons (CGT), an increase of 72% over December last year. This is also after the global new ship orders reached a high of 4.67 million CGT in September last year, after a drop of 2.59 million CGT in October, 2.03 million CGT in November, and 1.78 million CGT in December, the first time in 4 months grow again later.


Among them, China has undertaken 1.47 million CGT, with a market share of 48%, ranking first in the world; South Korea has undertaken 1.38 million CGT, with a market share of 45%, ranking second; Japan has undertaken 90,000 CGT, with a market share The rate is 3%, ranking third.


It is worth mentioning that in January this year, the number of new ship orders in South Korea and China increased by 160% and 51% respectively compared with the previous month, while the number of new ship orders in Japan decreased by 18% in the same period. The pattern has become more solid.


Judging from the ship types of new ship orders traded globally in January, large LNG ships of more than 140,000 cubic meters and large container ships of more than 12,000 TEU accounted for 67% of the overall transaction volume, and these ship types are the main ship types built by Korean shipbuilding companies.


In January this year, the Clarkson newbuilding price index was 154.26 points, up 0.08 points from the previous month, maintaining an upward trend for 14 consecutive months.


From the perspective of the ship price of each type of ship, the price of VLCC rose from US$112 million to US$114 million, the price of Aframax oil tankers rose from US$59 million to US$60 million, and the price of 13000~14000TEU container ships rose from US$148 million to US$148.5 million. USD, the 174,000-cubic-meter LNG carrier rose from USD 210 million to USD 214 million. Except for the Suezmax tanker, the prices of all other ship types have risen.


As of the end of January this year, the global order book for new ships was 91.28 million CGT, an increase of 110,000 CGT over the end of December last year. Among them, the number of new ship orders in South Korea increased by 690,000 CGT, and the number of new ship orders in China and Japan decreased by 40,000 CGT and 240,000 CGT respectively.
